CPSA DC 201 20th Annual Colored Pencil Exhibition
La Sells Stewart Center—Corvallis, Oregon
April 3, 2011 Artists' Reception at Giustina Gallery
Corvallis artist Rachael Bourdet Oehler received a Merit Award of Excellence for her painting Great-Horned Owl in Oak.
CJ Worlein holds her painting, The Sisters, which was awarded Best of Show.
First Place went to Orange Appeal, by David Billingsley, CPSA.
Second Place went to On the Fly, by Pat Averill, CPSA, who, unfortunately, was unable to attend the reception to receive her award personally.
Third Place went to Pottery in the Cliffs, by Dyanne Locati, CPSA. Dyanne was unable to attend the reception to receive her award. This photo shows juror Clint Brown with her painting as we recorded his comments. Photo: CJ Worlein
Fourth Place went to Waitin' to Ride, by Don Griffith (below).
Dee Wagoner (above) won a Merit Award of Excellence for The Stream, shown at right with juror Clint Brown following judging the day prior to the show's opening. Dee's painting was sold two days before the award presentations, so we could only see it on the DVD.
Richard Helmick's Autumn at Tilikum received one of five Merit Award of Excellence ribbons.
A Merit Award of Excellence went to Wendy Thompson, CPSA, for Feather Light.
Our juror, Clint Brown, was unable to attend the reception, so once the judging was complete a few days before the reception, we videotaped him with each award-winning painting as he made his comments. Here the crowd watches the DVD with his opening remarks about art, colored pencil, and the show.
The DVD was definitely a hit!
Nancy Tanner was our "Newbie" first place award winner, with Sally Lightfoot Crab.
Anna Olivia Funk received the "Newbie" second place award with Allongée.
Below: Jan Tallis and Kate Mayo (both seated) sold tickets at our raffle. The raffle is the chapter's annual fundraising event, held at the artists' reception in conjunction with our annual show. Items were donated by members and businesses, but the most sought-after raffle item was a small original colored pencil painting donated by Pat Averill, CPSA. It ended up in the hands of lucky chapter member Candy Thurman.
Nancy Rogge's Get the Shot received a Merit Award of Excellence, presented by Terry Tallis.
The "Newbie" awards were introduced this year to encourage artists who consider themselves novices to participate in the show.
