Audience With the King

15" x 16" on Arches 140 lb. coldpress watercolor paper. About the lion...my husband and I visited "Great Cats of the World" in Grants Pass. "Shakka," the lion, was feeling a bit grumpy that day. The park attendant would not let the guests near his den so she shot a photo with our camera through the bars. He was a great deal of fun to draw. If you ever get the chance to visit Grants Pass, Shakka is magnificient in person.

Helen has been drawing faces since childhood and credits presistance and determination more than talent in her growth as a portrait artist. In the early '80s, Helen fell in love with the fine detail and translucent effects that Prismacolor pencils can deliver, and since November 2004 has been living her lifelong dream of being a portrait artist. Dreams can come true!

Helen works on commission and especially loves drawing tender everyday moments shared between children and their parents or grandparents. Each drawing takes 6-8 weeks to complete. When possible, Helen prefers to meet and photograph her subjects in their own environment.
